About This Tool
What This Tool Does
If you have a password-protected PDF and you know the password, this tool decrypts it and saves a copy without the password. Useful when you no longer need encryption (e.g. internal review is over) or want to share with users whose viewer doesn't support encrypted PDFs.Important — Permission Required
This tool only works on PDFs you have the legal right to unlock. We require you to provide the password — there is no password-cracking functionality. Removing protection from documents you don't own may violate copyright or contract terms.Behind The Scenes
The PDF is decrypted using pdf-lib'signoreEncryption + supplied password. Once decrypted, the document is saved as a fresh PDF with no encryption layer. Original metadata is preserved where possible.Frequently Asked Questions
Will this work on any password-protected PDF?
It works on most PDFs encrypted with the standard Adobe security handler (RC4, AES-128, AES-256). Some custom security handlers may not decrypt cleanly. If you get errors, try a desktop tool like qpdf.
Why does the output look slightly different from the original?
Because the tool renders each page through pdf.js and reassembles it, text becomes part of an image. Quality stays high (rendered at 2× scale), but text isn't selectable in the output. This is the trade-off for guaranteed unlock compatibility.
Can it crack passwords I don't know?
No — and intentionally so. This tool requires the actual password. We don't provide brute-force or dictionary-attack functionality. Lost passwords on documents you own can sometimes be recovered with specialized recovery tools, but that's outside this tool's scope.
